Lacing rings, or sailing rings as they are also known, are, among other things, what we know from the holes for our shoelaces, the handle of our leather bags or the back of a corset with a string in the back. We have a wide range of different lace rings for your projects. You'll find rings in different sizes and colours in the range, so you'll easily find the ones that best suit what you're doing.
The rings are perfect for places where you want to reinforce a hole and make sure it doesn't expand or become crooked over time, or that the fabric becomes frayed.
How do you put in lace rings?
If you haven't worked with sail rings before, it's important to make sure you have the right tools on hand to insert the rings. With us, you'll find both refill packs and packs that also contain the tools you'll need to fit the sail rings for the best results.
For the smaller rings you can often just make a small hole with a knitting needle before inserting the ring, where the larger ones will require you to use a hole punch or scissors.
Fitting sail rings for thinner fabric
The smallest eyelets are usually the ones you use for thinner fabrics, where you can make small holes. The important thing is that the hole is SMALLER than the ring, so it has to be pressed through and all edges will be closed in under the ring when it is hammered down.
Once inserted, you can either use the tool provided and a hammer or one of the more professional tools also available in our range.
Fitting lace rings to leather
If you're going to use the rings for either thick fabric or leather, it makes more sense to opt for the larger stainless steel versions of the sail rings. Both because it is feasible, but also because this way you are more sure that the rings will fit properly and stay in place.
Here, it's a good idea to use a leather puncher to give your fabric or leather a clean-edged hole that will look nicer once the ring is attached.
Which tool do you need?
In the same way that you need tools to insert press studs, you also need the right tools to insert the rings correctly and securely. In our range, you'll find a variety of options for ordering your tools along with the sail rings:
- Pliers
- Packs of rings and pliers
- Tool packs
- Tripod
If you choose the packages with the small tools, you will also need a hammer to fasten your ring correctly.
