Crochet Basket

If you want to crochet your own storage basket to store, for example, your yarn or supplies, this pattern is perfect for you. The pattern is easy to follow and can be used by both experienced and beginners. The basket is crocheted using fabric yarn and you can choose between both Hoooked Zpagetti or Infinity Hearts Dahlia, which are available in many different colours. The bottom of the basket measures 30 cm in diameter and approx. 31 cm in height. You have the option of adjusting the size to get a smaller basket if you wish.

Size: 30 cm in diameter, 31 cm high

Material: Hoooked Zpagetti Fabric Yarn Made of 92% Recycled Cotton and 8% Other Materials or Infinity Hearts Dahlia Fabric Yarn Made of 95% Cotton and 5% Elastane

Yarn requirement:

3 skeins of fabric yarn for the basket 

½ skein fabric yarn for the star

Crochet hook: No. 6.00 mm

Supplies: Scissors and possibly a darning needle for assembly 

Abbreviations

Mr - magic ring

S – stitch 

Sc – single crochet 

Sl st = slip stich 

Ch = chain stitch 

Tr – treble 

The numbers in brackets (X) indicate how many stitches you should have in the round.

The basket (1ch does not count as the first s)

1 Start with a mr and make 8 sc in it. Finish with a sl st in the first sc (8)

2 Make 1 ch, 2 sc in each s, finish with 1 sl st in first s (16)

3 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in next s, and 2 sc in next s - repeat round, finish with 1 sl st in first sc (24)

4 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in the next 2 s and 2 sc in the 3. s - repeat round, finish with one sl st in the first sc (32)

5 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in the next 3 s and 2 sc in the 4. s - repeat round, finish with one sl st in the first sc (40)

6 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in next 4 s and 2 sc in 5. s - repeat round, finish with a sl st in first sc (48)

7 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in next 5 s and 2 sc in 6. s - repeat round, finish with one sl st in first sc (56)

8 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in next 6 s and 2 sc in 7. s - repeat round, finish with a sl st in first sc (64)

9 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in the next 7 s and 2 sc in 8 s - repeat round, finish with 1 sl st in the first sc (72)

10 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in next 8 s and 2 sc in 9 s - repeat round, finish with a sl st in first sc (80)

11 Make 1 ch, make sc in each s all around, finish with a sl st (80)

12 Make 1 ch and turn the right side down - you will now need to make sl st on top of your sc round. Insert the crochet hook through the 2nd hole from the crochet hook and wrap and pull through, and through the loop of the needle. Repeat all the way around including the last s you skipped at the start of the round, finish with 1 sl st (80)

13 Now turn it against yourself as in the picture. You need to crochet upwards. You do this by doing a sc in km as you did in the previous round. You need to go under both mask links to make sc. View photos. Finish with a km in the first sc (80)

14-34 Make a ch, and sc in each s all the way around (80)

TIP: You can make a smaller basket by making a smaller bottom - you can do this by stopping at any time between rounds 1 and 10 - and then continue from round 11. But note that the number of stitches will then change.

35 In this round crochet the handles. You need to crochet 1 ch, 16 sc, 10 ch and at the same time skip 10 sc, crochet 30 sc, make 10 ch and skip 10 sc, and 16 sc in the remaining 16 sc. Finish with sl st in the first sc

36 Make 1 ch, 1 sc in each s, and 10 sc in the 10 ch holes. Finish with a sl st in the first sc, making 1 ch (80)

37 Make 1 sl st in each s all the way around, finish cutting the yarn and make a knot inside the basket. Merge the rest of the yarn in between the stitches so that it cannot be seen (80) (See picture below for sl st)

Star application

1 Make a mr, 3 ch (counts as 1 tr), and crochet 11 tr, finish with sl st in first s (12)

2 Make 1 ch, 2 tr in each s, finish with 1 sl st (24)

3 Make 1 ch, 1 tr and 2 tr in the next s, repeat round, finish with 1 sl st in first s (36)

4 * Make 4 ch, 1 tr in 3rd s. 1 ch, crochet 5 tr inside the first tr you made so that it is covered in tr. Then 1 sl st in the 3rd s from the first tr you made *. Now you've made a point on the star. You have to repeat this 4 times more so you have 5 points in total. When making the last point finish with a sl st in the mask you started your first point with 3 ch. (You will experience skipping more s in the last point than you did in the other points - just do it)

Cut but leave a long enough piece of yarn so you can sew your star to the basket.
