The magic ring is called “magic” for a reason. It’s your rescue when crocheting round shapes - for example, for a teddy bear or a hat. You can choose to start with a row of chain stitches and connect them in a chain. However, if you have already tried that, you will know that it won’t close up entirely. This is when the magic ring comes to your rescue.

After you have made your magic ring and crocheted around it, you can tighten it, so it leaves no openings. It can feel tedious doing it the first few times, but don't give up. You will quickly learn how to make a magic ring without any trouble.

In this guide, we have used Infinity Hearts Rose, which is made from 100% cotton.

Instructions:

Place the yarn so that it creates a loop as illustrated in the photo. It is important that the working yarn is placed on top of the yarn end.

Insert your hook through the loop and grab the yarn that leads to the skein.

Draw the yarn out from the ring, so it creates a loop on your hook.

Yarn over hook.

Draw the yarn through the loop on your hook. You now have a magic ring.

Now you make double crochets. Insert the hook in the ring.

Grab the yarn.

Draw it out of the ring, so it creates two loops on your crochet hook.

Now, grab the yarn once again with your hook and draw through both loops.

Make the number of double crochets you need.

Pull at the end of the yarn to tighten so you close the ring.
