Free crochet pattern for ribbed crochet pumpkins

Halloween is just around the corner and what is more fitting decoration for this holiday than pumpkins? Unfortunately, regular carved pumpkin decorations do not last long. But with these crocheted pumpkins you will have a Halloween decoration for many years to come. You can easily have the pumpkins out during the entire fall season if you use the same colours that we used for this crochet pattern.

It is not a difficult pattern to follow, but the rib stitch sometimes requires some concentration. However, the result will be very nice in the end, and the rib pattern gives the pumpkin a nice structure. You can also choose to make the pumpkins in regular half treble stitches. The results will also be great, but of course, you will not get the pretty rib pattern. The lovely little pumpkins are made with Infinity Hearts Rose 8/4.

Measurements

Small pumpkin measures approx. 4.5 cm

Large pumpkin measures approx. 8 cm

What you will need:

Abbreviations

s = stitch

ch = chain stitch

dc = double crochet

mr = magic ring

htr = half treble

tr = treble

Small pumpkin

You will need: 2.5 mm crochet hook and Infinity Hearts Rose, 190 Mustard

1. Cast on 35 ch, plus 2 for turning.

2. In the third loop from the hook, you make the first htr.

3. Make the entire row with htr and finish with 2 ch that you use to turn.

4. In the third stitch from the hook, you insert the crochet hook in the back loop and make your htr.

5. Continue with crocheting htr in the back loop throughout the entire row. Finish with 2 ch.

6. You crochet the next row from behind. Begin in the third stitch from the hook and continue through the entire row. Finish with 2 ch.

7. For the next row, you crochet in the back loop again for the entire row and finish with 2 ch. As you progress the pattern should look similar to the photo.

8. Continue by alternating between crocheting behind the pattern and in the back loop. Make 45 rows in total. Make sure to leave a long tail when cutting the yarn.

9. Weave the long sides together, so the weaving is parallel with the pattern.

10. Turn the wrong side out on the pattern and weave all the way around on both ends. Do not weave in the yarn.

11. Once you have woven all the way around, pull the strand on one end so that the ”tube” closes. Turn the right side out again.

12. Add wadding so you still have space to shape the pumpkin when it is assembled.

13. Pull and close the opening as you did in step 11. Weave in the one end.

14. Thread a needle with the end of the yarn at one end, insert the needle all the way through the pumpkin, lead the thread around, place the needle through the middle again and pull on it slightly. You make it like a loop around the pumpkin from the middle.

Repeat this 9 times. Place the loop a different place each time and weave in ends.

Large pumpkin

You will need: 3mm crochet hook Infinity Hearts Rose, 212 Sand

You make this the same way as the small mustard coloured pumpkin.

You simply cast on 45 stitches, and instead of making half treble stitches, you make treble stitches. It gives it a coarser structure.

You crochet 55 rows

To get a thicker peduncle, you cast on 8 double crochet stitches in your magic ring, and in the first round you crochet two double crochet stitches in every other stitch.
