Sewing Pattern Face Mask for Adults

With this guide, you can sew your own face masks with interchangeable filters.

Measurements

18.5cm x 9cm, when it is not folded out.

Materials

• Cotton fabric 50x150cm
• Vlieseline (Interfacing) 
• Elastic band
• Sewing thread
• Nose wire
• Waterbased marker 

Instructions

1. Cut out a piece of fabric measuring 40x20cm

2. Fold the edge along the one short side and iron it to create a fold. Then fold the edge once again and iron. Keep the fabric in place with pins and sew along the edge. Repeat this on the other end.

3. Fold the fabric down 2.5cm at the top.

4. Measure 4cm in from each side of the fabric and make a mark of 1cm. Keep the fabric in place with pins and sew along the two small markings.

5. Place the nose wire in the little pocket. Make a mark across the fabric. Put the fabric together with pins and sew along the marking. On each side of the fabric, leave an opening of 1cm - do not sew it entirely from edge to edge.

6. Fold in the two long sides and iron to create the fold.

7. Fold up the other end, so it lies beneath the upper end by the nose wire. Iron along the edges to keep the folds in place.

8. Cut two pieces of elastic band of 17cm. If you have a small head, you should cut them a little shorter and vice versa if you have a larger head.

9. Take one of the elastic bands and place it so you have each end of the elastic in each end of the fabric. Keep it in place with pins and sew it onto the sides.

10. Fold the fabric in the middle and iron.

11. Fold one side in towards the middle and iron it. Do the same on the other side.

12. Grab the top fold and pull it down so that the edge is ⅔ down towards the middle fold. Iron to keep the fold and use pins to hold the fabric in place.

13. Grab the middle fold and pull it down so that the edge is ⅔ down towards the bottom fold. Iron to keep the fold and use pins to hold the fabric in place.

14. Grab the bottom fold and pull it down so that the edge is ⅔ down towards the bottom. Iron to keep the fold and use pins to hold the fabric in place.

15. Sew along the edge on each side to keep the folds in place.

16. Cut interfacing into pieces measuring 15cm x 16cm. In the middle of each side, make a dot with a water-based marker. Between each dot, you make a curved line of dots and cut along it. You then unfold the face mask and insert the filter.
