If your husband, boyfriend, son, father or friend needs a scarf for the cold winter days, here is a beginner-friendly, classic, simple and soft model - that can of course also be used by women.

Measurements

Size: One Size

Measurements: 175 x 35 cm

Materials

Yarn: Infinity Hearts Baby Merino. Contains 100% Superwash Merino Wool.

Yarn consumption

6 skeins of Infinity Hearts Baby Merino - here we used colour 26 Navy Blue

Knitting needle:

Circular needle 60 cm size 4.00 mm

In addition, a needle and a pair of scissors are needed for end stitching.

Knitting tension

Knitting tension: 26 stitches - 10 cm. Note that the knitting tension is not so important here. If you want a firmer scarf, you can easily go down a needle size, and there is also enough yarn if you want to go up a needle size.

Techniques

Pattern: The scarf is worked back and forth on the needle, with wide rows of grooves at the ends and a narrow row of grooves at the neck. Note that on the pattern pieces on each row needs to be knitted two edge stitches at the beginning and end of the row.

The diagram is read from the bottom right corner.

Stitches:
2+2 edge stitches
20x4 pattern stitches (here you can adjust by 4 if you want a wider or narrower scarf).

Rows of grooves: 1 groove consists of 2 rows back and forth, 50 rows of grooves = 100 rows

Method

Cast on 84 stitches.

Knit 50 rows of grooves.

Work 50 x pattern repeat - 1 pattern repeat = 4 rows in diagram. Remember 2 knits at beginning and end of each row.

Knit 25 rows of grooves.

Work 50 x pattern repeat. Remember 2 knits at beginning and end of the row.

Work until there are 50 grooves on one side of the piece and 49 rows on the other side and loosely cast off.

Cast off tip: If necessary increase the size of the needles, here to 4.5, so that it is easier to get a neat and even cast off.

Enjoy knitting.
