Please note that the table is merely indicative. The English and American sizing may differ, whereas sizes in millimetre should always be the same. If millimetre sizes are specified, you do not need to take anything into account. You may want to use the table if you aren’t sure which crochet hook you need. The right size is crucial for the result of your crochet project.

The importance of choosing the right crochet needle size

There is (unfortunately) not one crochet hook that fits all projects. If you are thinking about starting a new crochet project, make sure to check what crochet hook size you will need. There are, of course, some sizes that are more commonly used than others. The challenge of using an English or American crochet pattern is that they use other sizes than we are used to. 

If you’re using a pattern, the recommended crochet needle size will usually be noted. If you are using a Danish pattern, do not spend time converting the size, as DK sizes will already have been specified. So, needle size conversion is only necessary if you choose to use a pattern from the US or the UK. Although it may seem difficult at first it is really quite easy to convert the sizes.
