What are felting needles?

When you're working with card pile or other wool that needs felting, you do it either with hot soapy water and hand power or with felting needles. Felting needles are long, very sharp needles with barbs that pull the wool up through itself, creating a firm, strong surface that can withstand both sewing and playing with, depending on what you're working on.

The needles come in three different sizes, each with its own purpose. The strongest needles are great for working in the coarse wool, where the fine ones are perfect for making smaller details and giving your projects just the right finish.

How to use felting needles?

It's a very enjoyable process where you can slowly see the shape of what you're making emerge, while constantly adapting and developing it so that the finished project is exactly how you want it.

You use the needle to 'owl' or felt your cardstock together over a foam shape or similar. By inserting the needle through the felt, its tiny barbs will slowly cause the wool to stick to the base, felting and becoming more dimensionally stable.

Important to note is that these are VERY sharp needles, not suitable for small children, and older children should be supervised by an adult when filtering.

Also, remember not to push the needles through the wool. They should slide through easily. If you can't get the needle through where you are sticking, try somewhere else, or use a smaller needle.
