Needle felting is a fun and enjoyable hobby that can test the imagination and creativity of young and old alike. This pack contains 10 medium needles, the ones used for a little "everything". You can felt larger surfaces, but you can also start making details with these needles.

What are felting needles?

When working with carding or other wool to be felted, it is done either with hot soapy water and hand power or with felting needles. Felting needles are long, very sharp needles, with barbs that pull the wool up through itself to create a firm, strong surface that can withstand both sewing and playing with, depending on what you're working on.

The needles come in three different sizes, each with a different purpose. The heavier needles are great for working with coarse wool, while the finer needles are perfect for making smaller details and giving your projects just the right finish.

How to use felting needles?

It's a very enjoyable process where you can slowly see the shape of what you're making emerge, all the while tweaking and developing it to get the finished project exactly the way you want it.

You use the needle to 'owl' or felt your card flosses together over a foam mold or similar. By inserting the needle down through the felt, it will slowly work its little barbs into the felt, causing the wool to stick to the surface, felt and become more dimensionally stable.

It is important to note that these needles are VERY sharp and not suitable for small children, and older children should be supervised by an adult when felting.

Also, remember that the needles should not be pushed through the wool. They should slide through easily. If you can't get the needle through where you are pricking, try another place or choose a smaller needle.
