Product description

Once you have made your knitting test, use the knitting calculator to calculate how many stitches and rows you need to make.

By placing the calculator on top of the knitting pattern, you can count the number of stitches and rows per 5 cm. Afterwards you set the dials to the number of stitches you have counted per 5 cm. This allows you to calculate how many stitches you need for a pattern of a given size. The same can be done with the number of rows.

Instructions:

Convert centimetres to needles and stitches (see Figure 1):

Knit a sample of 10 cm. Place it under the knitting calculator window. Count the number of stitches (to get the width) and the number of rows (to get the height) inside the window. Then continue:

  1. Rotate the middle circle marked "centimeters" so the black arrow (that says "5") points to the number on the bottom circle that corresponds to the number of stitches in your knitting sample.
  2. Hold the middle circle with the thumb of your left hand and then turn the smallest/top circle with your right hand until the black arrow is next to the number of stitches in your knitting sample.
  3. Now choose (on the centimeter circle) the length of the piece you want to knit. By reading on the opposite side of the circle on the stitch circle (the top one) you can read the number of stitches you need to cast on to get the desired width of the piece. On the stitch-circle you can read the number of stitches you need to knit to get the desired length.

Example: the knitting test has shown that in the 5x5cm window there were 23 needles and 17 stitches.

  • to get 13 cm you need to knit 60 rows and 44 stitches
  • to get 28 cm you need to knit 129 rows and 95 stitches
  • to get 40 cm you need to knit 184 rows and 136 stitches

Adapt to a pattern (see Figure 2):

To fit a pattern, first make a knitting test and count the number of stitches and rows in the window. Then, rotate the circles to see the relationship between the reports given in the pattern and the number of stitches and rows in the knitting sample.

On the middle circle you can then read the number of repeats. On the opposite side of the circle you can then read the number of stitches and rows you need to knit to make it fit.

Example: the pattern indicates 25 rows and 20 stitches. The knitting test gives 27 rows and 22 stitches:

  1. Rotate the middle circle so that 25 on the middle circle is next to 27 on the bottom circle to get the number of rows.
  2. Rotate the top circle so that 22 is next to 20 on the middle circle to get the number of stitches.
