Product description

The Prym Knitting Mill maxi is a semi-automatic knitting machine. With the knitting mill you can automatically knit tubes of 33 cm in diameter or flat pieces up to 43 cm wide. The length of your knitting project is up to you. The knitting machine maxi fits most yarns.

The knitting wheel itself is made of plastic. The knitting machine is shaped like a ring, on which the knitting wheel with 44 needles sits. The knitting mill works by turning the handle on the side of the knitting mill, which rotates with the needles. Next to the handle is a function selector so you can decide whether you want to knit a tube or a flat piece. A handy handle is also included, making the knitting machine easy to carry. The knitting mill is mounted on four plastic feet with non-slip rubber on the bottom, so the knitting mill stands firmly on the table.

German Prym has made a knitting mill that will last for many different knitting projects. If you're up for automatic knitting, the Prym knitting mill maxi is a smart, good-quality needlework tool at a fair price.

Instructions

While knitting, you should keep an eye on:

  • that there is enough yarn hanging loosely from the yarn loop
  • that no stitches jump off the needles
  • that you regularly pull down the knitted piece a little

How to knit a tube:

First set the button (C) to the lowest position. Then turn the handle (B) slowly clockwise until the dark blue needle is to the right of the yarn feed (D). Let about 40 cm of yarn hang down into the hole in the knitting needle.

Thread the yarn under the dark blue needle from right to left, then put it behind the next needle (skip it). Slowly turn the handle clockwise until the third needle opens. Make sure to tighten the yarn so that it is not too loose. Put the yarn under the third needle and behind the fourth. Turn the handle clockwise again until the fifth needle opens. Continue in this way until you are back at the dark blue needle.

Put the yarn under the dark blue needle and under the next five needles (do not skip any of them).

Insert the yarn end into the yarn inlet, then put it into the plastic ring (E) that holds the yarn tight during knitting. How well it is secured depends on the weight of the yarn. Leave about 3 mm of yarn hanging loosely from the yarn loop. Hold the knitting needle with your left hand while turning the handle clockwise with your right hand.

When finishing, turn the handle slowly clockwise until the dark blue needle in the knitting wheel is to the right of the yarn inlet. Cut the yarn from the yarn loop, leaving about 1 m of yarn hanging down from the knitting project. Remove the yarn from the plastic ring and thread it with a sewing needle. Continue turning the knitting needle clockwise until the dark blue needle has disappeared. Now insert the needle through the stitch from the wrong side and towards the right side. Now turn the knitting needle one needle at a time and cast off each stitch that way.

To knit a flat piece:

First set the button (C) to the upper position. Then turn the handle (B) counterclockwise until the dark blue needle is slightly to the right of the yarn inlet (D). Let about 40 cm of yarn hang down into the hole in the knitting needle.

Thread the yarn from right to left under the dark blue needle and then put it behind the second needle (skip it). Slowly turn the handle clockwise until the third needle opens. Make sure to tighten the yarn so that it is not too loose. Put the yarn under the third needle and behind the fourth. Continue in this way until you are back at the dark blue needle.

Put the yarn under the dark blue needle and under the next two needles (don't skip any). At this point you shouldn't be able to turn the handle much more.

Insert the yarn end into the yarn inlet, then put it into the plastic ring (E) that holds the yarn tight while knitting. Leave about 3 m of yarn hanging loosely from the yarn loop.

Hold the knitting wheel with your left hand while turning the handle counterclockwise until the knitting wheel stops. Turn the next round clockwise. Continue back and forth until the knitted piece is the desired length. Be extra careful to keep the yarn tight when starting a new round to get a neat edge.

To finish, turn the handle slowly counterclockwise until you can't turn it anymore. Cut the yarn from the yarn loop, leaving about 1 m of yarn hanging down from the knitting project. Slowly turn the knitting wheel in a clockwise direction until the first needle is to the right of the yarn inlet. Continue turning the knitting wheel clockwise until the dark blue needle has disappeared. Then thread the yarn with a sewing needle. Now insert the needle through the stitch from the wrong side towards the right side. Now turn the knitting needle one needle at a time and cast off each stitch that way.
