The coarse and raw jute yarn has previously been reserved for those who tie up flowers and vegetable plants in the garden and greenhouse. Our delicious jute yarn can be used for that too, but there are also lots of other different things you can make out of the coarse string that fits nicely into any creaky box.
We always have a great selection of different kinds of jute twine, so you can find what you need for the project you want to get started on. Both when it comes to the twine, but also all the other materials you might be lacking when working with jute yarn.
What is jute cord?
Most of us are familiar with natural fibres like cotton, linen and silk, but not many people know that jute cord is also a plant fibre. It comes from the jute plant and is characterised by the long, coarse fibres in the beautiful beige colour that also characterises the final product; jute cord.
Jute yarn comes in many different thicknesses and coarsenesses and can therefore be used in many different contexts. In some cases it can also be treated to make the strings less coarse and more shiny in surface.
What can you do with jute cord?
The coarse cord has many possibilities to give a more rough and raw look to the different projects you are working on, but it also works really well on its own. Some of the things that are fun to make are:
Candlesticks with jute cord
If you save your old jam jars, you can use the jute yarn to make cute and pretty candle holders by using glue to attach the string to the jar. Make patterns or twist the jar while pulling the string around the jar. It gives a nice, warm light.
Macrame planters
The coarse string is also really pretty if you want to make the beautiful 70s inspired planters that are really popular in decor. They can be used indoors or out, and you can make them plain or embellish them with pretty beads.
Wrapping with jute string
You can also use the lovely twine to give your Christmas or birthday presents a little edge when it comes to wrapping. Use it with some lovely paper in pretty colours, or create a more accomplished paper by wrapping in card stock and wrapping in jute twine. It makes for a rustic and delicious wrap.
Accessories for jute cord
Working with jute twine doesn't require a lot of accessories, as it often depends on what you combine it with. However, there are a number of things that are good to have on hand when embarking on a jute project:
- Scissors
- Glue
- Beads
- Glass
And beyond that, anything else you can think of to combine to make something fun, creative, and pretty. The only limit is your imagination.
