There are products that only people who work in a special kind of hobby know about and plastic granulate is one of them. It's a kind of small plastic shell used to create weight in dolls, cushions or similar. We have a range of granules in different colours and sizes, so you can always find exactly what you need for your creative project.
What are plastic granules?
In a nutshell, plastic granules are small, plastic balls in either transparent, white or coloured blue, red, green or similar. The small balls are used as stuffing for teddy bears and cushions, along with the regular kind of stuffing also found on this site.
The small balls are about 5x5 mm and come in bags of about 1 kg each, but are also available in other different sizes. That's enough in a pack for several different projects, as you don't need very large quantities.
How to use plastic granules?
It is not necessary to fill the whole figure with granules, instead you can create a kind of 'slush effect' by putting the granules in the feet and hands of a doll. This makes it fun for little ones to play with and also provides an exciting experience for older people who want to sleep with the doll, which has a little more ballast even if it is soft.
In addition, you can also use plastic granules as doll filling if you want to make a character that can sit on its bottom or with its legs hanging over, for example, a shelf edge or window sill by filling granules into the bottom. This creates a weight that provides stability and ensures that it doesn't end up on the floor all the time.
What can you do with plastic granules?
As well as the classic little dolls and teddies that can be made extra cosy with a little extra weight, you can also use the granules to make another kind of stuffed animal that has become really popular since crochet came back into fashion.
Here, of course, we're talking about those cute little crocheted characters inspired by Japan, called Amigurumi. These cute little characters are relatively easy to crochet if you can read a crochet pattern and have become quite popular, so that today you can find a myriad of little patterns for everything from tigers to unicorns, and if you give them a little granulate in the middle, they get a nice weight that makes them extra cuddly for little pooches.
How do you wash figures with granules for stuffing?
One of the great things about most of the granules you'll find in our range is that they're machine washable. We know that good dolls and sleeping animals get a lot of use, so they could do with a bath in the washing machine every now and then. That's why it's smart to choose a type of plastic granules that can go in the machine at a minimum of 40 degrees.
However, always be aware that the fabric you used to sew the doll well may shrink in the wash, making it appear firmer after it has been in the machine. However, with a little love from its owner, it will quickly become itself again.
Good to know about plastic granules
The little balls come from different manufacturers, of course, and if you're going to use plastic granules for your hobby, it's always a good idea to look at who will be using the finished project so you can make the right choice.
If you're making dolls or teddies for little ones, it can be a good idea to choose a variety that is CE marked, which means it complies with EU safety and environmental legislation. It's also a good idea to sew the balls into an extra bag before you put them in, so they don't end up running out of the doll or teddy by mistake.
