Round placemat with scalloped edging

With this free crochet pattern, you can make your own placemats with a nice scalloped edge. The placemats are made with Infinity Hearts Macrome, which is made from 60% cotton and 40% polyester.

Measurements

Your finished placemat will be 34 cm in diameter, which is a really good fit for a standard size plate.

• Crochet hook size 4.50
• Darning needle for fabric yarn

mr – magic ring

s = stitch(es)

sl st = slip stitch(es)

ch = chain stitch(es)

tr = treble

The numbers in parentheses (X) indicate how many stitches you will need for the round

Repeat * - means that you must repeat what is indicated between the asterisk signs – for the entire round.

The first 3 ch that you crochet at the beginning of each round count as 1 tr.

Instructions

The placemat

1. Make a mr, 3 ch in the ring and then 13 tr, finish with a sl st in the first tr (14)

2. Make 3 ch, 1 tr in the same s. *2 tr in each s* - repeat * around, finish with a sl st in the first tr (28)

3. Make 3 ch, 2 tr in the next s. *1 tr in the next s, 2 tr in the next s* - repeat * around, finish with a sl st in the first tr (42)

4. Make 3 ch, 1 tr in the next s, 2 tr in the next s. *1 tr in the next 2 s and 2 tr in 3rd s* – repeat * around, finish with a sl st in the first tr (56)

5. Make 3 ch, 1 tr in the next 2 s, 2 tr in the next s. *1 tr in the next 3 s and 2 tr in 4th  s* – repeat * around, finish with a sl st in the first tr (70)

6. Make 3 ch, 1 tr in the next 3 s, 2 tr in the next s. *1 tr in the next 4 s and 2 tr in 5th s* – repeat * around, finish with a sl st in the first tr (84)

The scalloped edge

1 ch, 1 dc in the same s.

*Skip 2 s, 7 tr in the next s, skip 2 s, 1 dc in the next s*, repeat from * to * until you have 23 scalloped edges.

When you crochet the last scalloped edge and have made the 7 tr, you skip 3 s instead of 2, which you have done so far, and finish with a sl st in the first dc from the round.
