Here you get a free crochet pattern for a baby blanket in velour yarn. The blanket is made with Lammy Velours 6 yarn with popcorn stitches. The baby blanket can be used for chilly summer nights, for the pram, as a play blanket or perhaps a comfort blanket. The possibilities are endless. As the Lammy Velours 6 yarn is discontinued, you are able to use Mayflower Comfy Velour yarn instead.

Measurements

The finished velour popcorn baby blanket will measure approx. 69 x 89cm.

Abbreviations

s - stitch

sl st - slip stitch

ch - chain stitch

tr - treble

PC – popcorn stitch

The numbers in parentheses (X) indicate how many stitches you need in the row.

Explanation

Repeat from * to *- means to repeat what is described between the asterisk signs x number of times.

The first 3 ch that you make at the beginning of each row counts as 1 tr.

You make a popcorn stitch by crocheting 5 tr in the same stitch. Then you poke the crochet hook through the first tr you made, draw the loop from the last tr though the stitch and continue to crochet in the next s on the row.

Instructions

1. Cast on 67 ch. (67 ch)

2. Crochet 1 tr in 4th ch from the hook, and 1 tr in each s throughout the entire row. (65 tr)

3. Turn with 3 ch, 1 tr in the next 3 s, *1 PC in the next s, 1 tr in the next 13 s* repeat from * to * 3 times. 1 PC in the next s, 1 tr in the last 4 s in the row. (65 s in total, including 5 PC)

4. Turn with 3 ch, crochet 1 tr in each stitch throughout the entire row. (65 s)

5. Turn with 3 ch, 1 tr in the next 10 s, *1 PC in the next s, 1 tr in the next 13 s*, repeat from * to * 2 times. 1 PC in the next s, 1 tr in the last 11 s in the row. (65 s in total. Including 4 PC)

6. Repeat step 4 again.

7. Repeat step 3 again.

8. Repeat step 4 again.

9. Repeat step 5 again.

The pattern is structured so that step 4, ie the row with tr only, always comes after a row of PC. You could also say that it lies between the rows of PC’s.

Step 3 and step 5 are rows of popcorn stitches that follow a staggered/offset pattern. To crochet the pattern, you will need to crochet alternating between the two rows while crocheting a row with only three in between.

You continue the pattern until you have 43 rows. The 43rd row is a tr row. Bind off and weave in ends.
