Knitted Blackberry Hat for Kids and Adults

Download PDF here

This blackberry hat is a special little hat that is knitted on the wrong side and eventually turned – The pattern is not too difficult once you get the hang of it. It is a good idea to knit a swatch to see if your little "bumps" appear in the pattern. You can also choose whether you want to add a tassel or a pompon, or if you just want it simple as in the photo.

Instructions

Knitted Blackberry Hat

Cast on 108 (120) 132 (144) 156 (168) 180 s on n 3mm, circular or long double pointed needles. Knit in the round. Place a stitch marker where you start your work to get a better overview of the pattern.

Knit a purl row and then begin pattern A.

All sizes are knitted using the same pattern A. In total, the pattern repeats 9 (10) 11 (12) 13 (14) 15 times around the work.

Closing

Once you have knitted pattern A; 3 (3) 4 (5) 5 (6) 7 times, you decrease. You do this by skipping an increase in on each side of the pattern. This means no yarn over, as shown in the pattern, you thereby reduce the amount of stitches without binding off.

Keep an eye on the amount of stitches in the pattern from now on. You can also write down how far you have come if you cannot see it from your work.

Avoid yarn over in the pattern rows, so you reduce the amount of stitches. You do this by following the instructions below:

(Avoid yarn over in the pattern rows below on the following full patterns)

Size: 0-3 mos: 1st pattern: row 3 and 7, 2nd pattern: row 3,5 and 7

Size: 3-6 mos: 1st pattern: row 3 and 7, 2nd pattern: row 3,5 and 7

Size: 6-12 mos: 1st pattern: row 3 and 7, 2nd pattern: row 5, 3rd pattern row 3 and 7

Size 1-2 yrs: 1st pattern: row 5, 2nd pattern row 3 and 7, 3rd pattern row 3 and 7

Size 3-4 yrs: 1st, 2nd and 3rd pattern row 5, 4th pattern row 3 and 7

Size 4-8 yrs: 1st, 2nd and 3rd pattern row 5, 4th pattern row 3 and 7

Size 8-12 yrs: 1st, 2nd and 4th pattern row 5, 5th pattern row 3 and 7

Then you knit 2 k tog until you have approx. 7-10 s left on the needle, cut the yarn and lead the strand through the stitches to bind off. Pull the yarn strand to the right side and weave in ends.

Finishing: Weave in ends on the RIGHT SIDE. Then turn the work if you want the bumps in the pattern to point outwards. It’s entirely up to you, but that’s how it was designed to be.

You can sew on a button on the top and attach a tassel in the size you want. You can also make a pom pom in the colour you like.
