What does 8/8 cotton yarn mean?

8/8 garn

When looking at cotton yarn, 8/8 is a standard term that indicates the thickness of the yarn and the number of threads it has been made with.

The first number indicates the thickness of the yarn, but in light of the threads it is spun with. The thickness of the threads will be the same as the ones you find in 8/4 cotton yarn, but the number of strands is what separates the two.

8/8 cotton yarn is therefore made with threads of a thickness 8. The second number indicates how many strands it is spun from. In this case 8 strands. A 8/8 cotton yarn is a yarn spun with 8 strands, and it is twice as thick as 8/4 cotton yarn.

A very special calculation method is used when you need to find out how many metres of yarn there are in a 50g yarn skein, but most 8/8 cotton skeins will have approx. 75 metres, making it a heavy and thick yarn with a short yarn length.
