What is mesh fabric?

Lycra mesh

Lycra mesh is the type of mesh that is often used to create an 'invisible' effect on your clothes. It could be for e.g. dancewear or sportswear, but it has also become popular for creating a 'sectioned' effect in clothing.

The great properties of mesh fabric

Mesh fabric has the great advantage of being super breathable due to the many holes in the fabric. You can therefore use mesh when you want good air circulation in your clothes.

Mesh is also used a lot for dancewear, lingerie, and pockets, but you can also easily use it to create a decorative expression in your clothes, as you can achieve an almost invisible effect on the skin if you choose the right type of mesh fabric.

What to keep in mind when sewing with mesh fabric

What you need to be aware of when sewing in mesh fabric naturally depends on the type of mesh fabric in question. However, there are some common rules to keep in mind when using mesh for your sewing projects.

For one, it is always a good idea to use plenty of pins to keep the fabric in place. Some types of mesh fabric, such as lycra mesh, can be a bit slippery to work with. Working with the mesh fabric becomes much easier if you have a lot of pins to help you keep the fabric in place.
