Free Crochet Pattern: Christmas Hat
This lovely Christmas hat is crocheted with a double strand of Infinity Hearts Iris. The edge and tassel are made with Infinity Hearts Crocus fur yarn, which is super soft.
The Christmas hat is quite easy to make as it is crocheted with treble stitches and cross treble stitches to give it a more rustic look. Cross treble stitches are made by skipping a stitch – and then afterward crocheting back into the first stitch. The two treble stitches will form a cross.
Measurements
The hat measures approx. 40cm in diameter and fits a size 2 yrs.

ch – chain stitch
dc - double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
inc – increase (two stitches in the same stitch)
tr – treble
3-dtr – Three double treble
trx– treble cross stitch
Instruction
Start with a double strand of Iris and make 6 dc in a magic ring.
Then crochet with tr and each round starts with 2 ch - and finishes with sl st. Increase x 6 (12)
Now you make the first round with increases, but it is slightly different than usual - as we are working with treble cross stitches.
2 chain stitches - 2 tr – cross back and make 1 more tr, in the same s for the first tr. You do this 6 times in total and you end up with (18) stitches in total.
2 ch – 1 trx – 1 inc x 6 (24)
2 ch – 1 tr – 1 trx – 1 inc x 6 (30)
2 ch – 2 trx– 1 inc x 6 (36)
2 ch – 1 trx – 1 tr – 1 trx – 1 inc x 6 (42)
2 ch – 3 trx – 1 inc x 6 (48)
You now make 9 rounds with trx, there are 24 trx in each round.
Now the hat itself is finished, and you now crochet the fur edge. Change to crocus yarn by making 3 ch.
The edge of the white fur is made by crocheting 3-dtr in each s all the way around, finish with a sl st.
When you have crocheted all the way around, you cut the yarn and weave in all ends.
The tassel is also made with the crocus yarn. Here, a Clover pom pom maker size 6.5cm has been used. Tie the tassel at the top of the hat and weave in ends.
