What is wool roving?

Wool roving is wool that is carded with a special brush to give it a light and airy texture. The fibres are crisscrossed so they lie in all directions, in contrast to combed wool, where the wool is brushed so that the fibres lie parallel.

The many uses of wool roving

You can use the light wool roving for many different needlework projects. Wool roving is particularly suitable for felting because the fibres lie in many directions and will therefore quickly begin to felt when you work with it.

Wool roving is particularly ideal for needle felting, where you can make shapes and figures by felting the wool with a special felting needle.

You can also spin the wool roving and make your very own yarn, or use it as an insulating filling for your sewing projects.
