Free Crochet Pattern: Tony the Tadpole - Crochet for Children
Tony the tadpole is crocheted with Shamrock Yarns 100% Cotton 8/4, which is 100% cotton, and stuffed with fibrefill.
Size
The tadpole measures 4x10cm, approx. 9cm once given the curved shape.
Tools and Materials
- Crochet hook size 2.50mm
- Darning needle for finishing
- Fibrefill
- Possibly stitch markers and row counter

Shamrock Yarns 100% Cotton 8/4
- Shamrock yarns 100% cotton – 8/4, colour 01 – black, 7 grams
- Shamrock yarns 100% cotton – 8/4, colour 02 – white, 1 gram
Abbreviations
dc - double crochet stitches
ch - chain stitches
sl st - slip stitch
inc - increase (2 stitches in the same stitch)
dec – decrease (2 stitches crocheted together)
Instructions
Start by making 6 double crochet stitches in a magic ring using the black yarn.

- 1 dc, inc x 6 (18)
- 2 dc, inc x 6 (24)
- 3 dc, inc x 6 (30)
Make 6 rounds of 30 double crochet stitches
- 3 dc, dec x 6 (24)
Make 3 rounds of 24 double crochet stitches.
- 2 dc, dec x 6 (18)
Make 2 rounds of 18 double crochet stitches.
- 1 dc, dec x 6 (12)
Make 5 rounds of 12 double crochet stitches
- 1 dc, dec x 4 (8)
Make 5 rounds of 8 dc
Add fibrefill and make sure to stuff it generously so it reaches the tail.
- 2 dc, dec x 2 (6)
Make 5 rounds of 6 double crochet stitches, finish with a sl st and cut the yarn.
Insert the crochet hook into the tail and pull some of the fibrefill down to the tail – not too much as you should still be able to move and curve the tail.
Fasten off and form the curved shape on the tadpole’s tail.
Now, you embroider the eyes on the tadpole. Use approx. 40cm of white yarn and embroider small white eyes.
