Christmas crochet pattern for crocheted Dangling Rudolph

The Dangling Rudolph is crocheted top down in amigurumi style. Rudolph is a "hollow shell" with legs that dangle inside like a bell. The legs are stuffed with craft filling. He will be about 15 cm tall, depending on where the legs are attached. Please note that your gauge may affect the size and yarn consumption.

rd 1: 6 dc in a magic ring(6)

rd 2: (1 dc, inc) x 3 (9)

rd 8-9: dc in all st (9)

Change to Brown

rd 10-26: dc in all st (9)

rd 25: 10 dc

rd 27: 3 dc (this is to make sure the colour change is neatly vertical on the back of the leg, so only do this if it matches your legs), pinch the opening together and crochet 3 dc across. Finish with a slip stitch and fasten with a long yarn thread. This yarn thread is used to sew the leg onto Rudolph.

ANTLERS:

The antlers are crocheted with a 2.5 mm hook, or half the size of the one you used for the body. The antlers are crocheted in Off White/White.

Long antlers, crochet 2 pieces:

rd 1: 6 dc in a magic ring (6)

rd 2-11: dc in all st (6)

rd 12: make 1 slip stitch, leave a long yarn thread

Stuff with a little bit of craft filling to provide stability.

Medium antlers, crochet 2 pieces:

rd 1: 6 dc in a magic ring (6)

rd 2-6: dc in all st (6)

rd 7: make 1 slip stitch, leave a long yarn thread

Stuff with some craft filling if necessary.

Small antlers, crochet 1 or 2 pieces:

rd 1: 6 dc in a magic ring (6)

rd 2-3: dc in all sts (6)

rd 4: make 1 sl st, leave a long yarn thread

NOSE:

rd 2: (1 dc, 2in1) x 3 (9)

rd 3: dc in all st (9)

rd 4: (1 dc, dec) x 3 (6)

rd 5: 1 slip stitch, leave a long yarn thread for sewing the nose onto to Rudolph.

CHRISTMAS BALLS:

rd 1: 6 dc in a magic ring (6).

rd 2: (1 dc, 2in1) x 3 (9)

rd 3: (1 dc, dec) x 3 (6)

rd 4: 1 slip stitch, pull cord through blo of the st in round 3 and tighten (to close hole).

Assembly

LEGS:

Legs must be attached inside Rudolph. The legs should not be sewn on tightly, but should hang from a short piece of string (this allows for dangling). The legs are attached on opposite sides to give a little space between the two legs. Attach the legs on approx. round 9 on the inside.

Alternatively, you can choose where you think the legs would fit Rudolph the best.

ANTLERS:

The antlers consist of 2 or 3 elements depending on your preference. The description here includes 3. Sew the short piece to the middle piece at approx 2-3. rd. Then sew the middle piece to the long piece at approximately the 5th-7th rd. Then sew the long piece to the body itself at the 5th-7th rd of the body.

CHRISTMAS BALLS:

The Christmas balls can either be attached to a long string like a string of lights to wrap around the antlers, or to short strings like Christmas balls.

If you want to crochet them on one long string, you can do as follows: 1 chain stitch (crochet a Christmas ball with a dc, 6 dc) x repeat 7 times (8 balls in total). Finish with a chain stitch.

NOSE:

Sew the nose on at approx. rounds 10-12, or wherever you think it fits Rudolph the best.

HANGER:

Pull a thread through the top of Rudolph and tie the knot on the inside so it doesn't show. This is the string Dangling Rudolph hangs on, so adjust the length to fit your preference.

NOTE! If you find it difficult getting Dangling Rudolph to hold its shape, it may be because you are crocheting looser than in our pattern. You may therefore want to change to a smaller hook when you crochet Rudolph next time.
