Procedure
THE SACK:
Cast on 90 st with size 3 double pointed needles.
Knit 4 rounds in garter stitch (alternating between a k round and a p round). This creates the upper edge of the sack.
Knit 12 rounds in stocking stitch.
Now you need to make the holes through which the drawstring will be pulled.
Knit 1 round where you knit: *4 st, 1 decl, 1 yarn over, 4 st* repeat *-* 9 times.
Knit 14 rounds in stocking stitch.
Now you need to knit the text on the bag. Please note that the outer edge of white squares on the diagram should not be counted, but is merely included as to provide a better visual representation of what is seen on the diagram.
Start at the sm and knit 33 st k, begin on the diagram. Now continue to work in stocking stitch while working according to the diagram on the "front". Start at the bottom right corner.
When you have finished the diagram, knit another 20 rounds in stocking stitch.
Now you need to start on the decreases.
Place 4 sm as follows: knit 22 st, place sm, knit 22 st, place sm, knit 24 st, place sm, knit 22 st, place sm.
Continue to knit around in stocking stitch while making dec on each side of the 4 sm as follows: *Knit until 2 st before sm make a decl, move sm make an decr* - you will then have 8 dec on each round.
Repeat this until you have only 6 st left. Pull a cord through the 6 st and cast off.
THE STRING:
The string for the sack can be an i-cord or alternatively a neat ribbon.
i-cord:
Cast on 3 st on a size 3 double pointed needle.
Knit 3 st, pull the yarn around back of the project and knit 3 st again. Repeat unitl the string has the desired length. It can be 90 cm for example.
Assembly and finishing
Fasten the ends, wash the project and fill the sack with nice Christmas items or whatever you may wish.
