Materials:

Yarn consumption:

  • Approximately 8 skeins of Infinity Hearts Snowdrop yarn are needed for the entire rya fabric. In this pattern we have made a 25 x 40 rya wall hanging using 3 skeins of Infinity Hearts Snowdrop in the colours 24 Mustard, 29 Navy and 08 Light Jeans Blue
  • 1 skein of Infinity Hearts Rose, for example in the colour 172 Off White

Technical instructions for rya weaving

  • Insert the mending needle through the rya net from below and up through the next stitch.
  • Catch the yarn and pull back again.
  • Fasten the yarn through the loop and tighten.

Instructions

Before you start, choose which size rya wall hanging you want to make. For a 25 x 40 cm piece of rya fabric, 3 skeins of Snowdrop are sufficient. To quickly and easily cut the yarn to the right size, find a book in your desired size and use it as a measuring tool, as shown in the picture. Cut the yarn at the top and bottom.

Once you've cut the yarn, you're ready to begin the actual weaving in the rya fabric. You may want to draw a pattern on the rya fabric with a pencil so you have a pattern to weave from.

You need to start the actual work 2-3 cm inside the rya fabric, so you have an edge to fold over at the end.

  • Fasten a whole row of yarn.
  • Skip a row so that you only fasten yarn in every other row.

When you have woven all the yarn, fold the edge over and sew it in place.

Cut a piece of Infinity Hearts Rose yarn and sew the edges in all the way around. We used Clover yarn needles with a curved tip, as it is easy to get under the stiff rya fabric.

Sew your finished rya project onto an appropriately sized stick by running the yarn around and through the top "stitch". Faten the yarn at the end.

To hang up your rya project, you can tie the yarn around the stick, braid it or twist it like in the picture below.

Now your rya wall hanging is ready to be hung up :-)
