This quick-to-make scrunchie is a perfect addition to almost any summer outfit. It is easy to knit and is, therefore, a great project for beginners. For the more experienced knitter, it is also a great way to explore the world of embroidery mixed with knitwear.

Materials:

Yarn: Infinity Hearts Rose Rose Pastel & Infinity Hearts Rose - 100% cotton with a tension of 10 x 10 cm = 30 s x 38 r

Knitting needles: Circular needles size 3.5 (40 cm)

Hairband

Yarn consumption:

1 skein of Infinity Hearts Rose Pastel in the colour 6 Purple

Some leftover cotton yarn like Infinity Hearts Rose in the colour 172 Off White

Instructions

Cast on 100 stitches on the 3.5 circular knitting needle.

Place a stitch marker. This marks the beginning of the round.

Continue knitting around in stockinette stitches until the work measures approx. 16 cm from the cast-on.

If you want the scrunchie to turn out wider you can continue for a little longer. To get a feeling of the final size you can fold the work in the middle (fold the cast-on edge up to the needle).

Leave the 100 stitches on the needle while creating the decoration.

Now it is time to embroid the flowers onto the work.

You can choose to embroid white flowers similar to those on the picture or any other style/colour you like.

The white flowers in the picture are made like this: using white yarn, they are embroidered with 5 petals each consisting of 3 threads. The petals stretch over approx. 2 stitches.

The flowers are embroidered on the right side and are placed randomly on the work.

When all the flowers are finished it is time to close the work around the hairband, like this:

Turn the wrong side out and place the hairband around the middle.

Fold the work with the wrong side facing in and the right side facing out. The cast on stitches are now close to the needle which encloses the hairband in the middle.

Knit the cast on stitches together with the stitches left on the needle while at the same time casting off. It is important that you start with the first stich of the round from both the cast-on and the needle.

FINISHING TOUCHES

Fasten the end of the thread. The scrunchie is now ready for use.
