If you want a luxury yarn for your projects, then Dale Garn Alpakka is just the yarn for you. You get a luxury yarn made of 100% pure alpaca. The Alpaca wool comes from the Alpaca, which is originally related to the llama. Alpaca wool is considered a finer yarn. Moreover, Alpaca wool has longer fibres, and long-fibre yarn is generally stronger than other types of yarn.
The special thing about Dale Garn Alpakka is that it is a 3-ply worsted yarn. The yarn strands consist of three finer threads, which are spun together into one strand. The fibres are stretched when the wool is combed during processing. This causes the fibres in the yarn to lie completely parallel. When the yarn is processed this way, you get a more durable yarn than e.g. sheep wool or wool which has simply been carded.
When you hold the yarn from Dale Garn Alpakka in your hand, itappears relatively smooth, firm and fine, as well as light and soft. It does not scratch or irritate the skin. This makes the yarn ideal for many different knitting and crochet projects. The yarn is especially suitable for all types of clothing for both children and adults. This could be anything from light jumpers for spring and summer, skirts, autumn and winter knitwear or various accessories such as blankets, hats, scarves, mittens or shawls.
If you want your Alpaca yarn to last for many years, it is important that you follow the given washing instructions. Dale Garn Alpakka must be washed on a wool program at a maximum of 40⁰ degrees without the use of fabric softener. Afterwards, the garments must be dried flat. Alpaca yarn has the advantage that it does not shrink in the wash.
Unique colours for knitting lovers
Colours appear particularly beautiful and stand out clearly in alpaca fibres. Dale Garn Alpakka has a large colour chart that spans widely. The cool thing about the colour chart is that the colours are divided into five main categories. First, we have the neutral colours, which we would probably categorise as natural colours. These include e.g. black, charcoal grey, various shades of grey, white, beige and brown.
In the next category are all the pastel colours. They have a widespan colour palette such as yellow, light pink, light grey, pearl grey, blue and green. Characteristic of the pastel colours is that they are lovely and dusty. Still, the bright colours stand out beautifully in the yarn.
Subsequently, we have the category with the clear colours such as warm yellow, pink, red, blue shades such as denim, blue, petrol and dark denim, as well as the green shades such as grass green, light olive, turquoise, blue-green. The clear colours offer a great opportunity to mix in a statement colour in your project or combine the colours in a mix of e.g. shades of green, blue or purple.
Moreover, there is also the special category called 'retro colours'. It has several purple, red, orange and green colours, which may not be used as frequently, but are sometimes revived for shorter periods as fashion trends change. The colour Terracotta has an intense red-orange hue and is almost reminiscent of the colour of an orange. Oker plays with brown and red shades and goes well with earthy shades or neutral colours. It can add a nice little twist to your jumpers, spice up the ribbed edge or different knit patterns.
The last colour category is 'space dyed' yarn, which is multi-coloured yarn. The term 'space dyed' refers to the way the yarn has been dyed. In Dale Garn Alpakka, we offer eight varieties of the multi-coloured yarn. These yarn skeins have a mix of either two or three colours.
Three of them contain blue in combination with green or yellow. Two contain red shades and one of them in combination with purple. If you are into the grey shades, you will also find two of those: One with the colder colours such as grey, beige and off-white, and the other with the warmer shades with pink, grey and off-white. If you love yellow shades, Dale Garn Alpakka also has a yellow variant of the space dyed yarn with yellow, ocher and dark mustard. The multi-coloured yarn inspires you to play around with the colours, whether it be for your jumpers, shawls, socks or mittens.
Exclusive yarn and distinguished quality from Norwegian Dale Garn
'Quality from nature since 1879' is Dale Garn's motto. You get gorgeous luxury yarn of high quality. While it may be more expensive, you are also guaranteed a yarn with longevity. Your finished knitting projects will simply have a longer lifespan and look good for many years. Dale Garn carefully selects its materials, and the yarn is thoroughly processed. These two factors ensure a quality yarn with an exclusive softness that feels great on the skin and does not itch.
In Norway, Dale Garn has played a big role as a trendsetter in knitwear. The inspiration comes from Norwegian nature with the beautiful Norwegian mountains and the deep fjords. Nature is both rough and at the same time immensely beautiful. In the beginning, tradition was the inspiration for beautiful yokes on knitted jumpers. Norway has a proud tradition of folk costumes, Nordic mythology, and patterns/designs from the churches. The Norwegian jumper has primarily had a practical function, namely to be able to keep warm in the cold nature with the changing seasons.
Dale Garn has managed to capture the spirit of the times as well as the fashion. They do not only supply the materials for fashion. A team of designers behind Dale Garn has regularly had a huge impact on fashion trends. Since the 1950s, they have been designing patterns for the famous Olympic and World Cup jerseys. These have almost become design classics.
When the Norwegian TV series "The Farm" rolled across the screen, the Lothepus jumper became iconic. It is a knit jumper from Dale Garn, and it is an example of how knitwear for men also can form fashion trends. This type of knitwear fashion phenomenon can be compared to the Danes' growing interest in the Sarah Lund jumper, when the TV series "The Killing" aired in Denmark.
