Technique elaboration
Brioche stitch:
In brioche stitch, you work in rib and alternate between a rd where you k and a rd where you p. When you work the k rd, make a yo before the p s and slip them. When you work the p rd, on the other hand, make a yo before the k s and slip them.

Increasing in brioche stitch:
When working increases in brioche stitch, you insert the right needle into the s, as if you were to k it, make a yo and pull it back (like a normal s), leave the s on the left needle, but make another yo on the right needle (you now have 2 s on the right needle), insert the right needle into the s again (the same as before), make a yo and pull it back (like a normal s). You now have 3 s on the right needle (1 k s, 1 p s, 1 k s) and you can drop the s from the left needle and continue.
Consequently, 1 increase equals 2 new s and 3 in total.
Pattern
Co 44 (48) s with two threads held together.
Work in 2x2 rib, until the work measures approx 13 cm. Make the work longer if you want a longer neck. Only the small size: Decrease by 2 s by k2tog in 2 random places on the last rd.
When you have finished the neck, it is time to work the yoke which alternates between brioche stitch and stockinette stitch. There are 6 ‘sections’ of each. The increases are always worked in the 2 outermost s of the brioche stitch sections (one on each side).
The shift from the neck to the yoke is worked like this:
“Yo, slip the 1st s, k 6 (7) s.” Repeat from “ to “ a total of 6 times.
Work brioche stitch increases (see elaboration above) in the 6 s with yo (brioche stitches), k the rest of the s.
You now have 12 ‘sections’ which alternate between brioche stitch and 6 (7) k s. Continue working this pattern.
NB: Every other rd, the k s are worked (while the p s are slipped with yo) in the brioche stitch section, and every other time, the p s are worked (while the k s are slipped with yo) in the brioche stitch section, in the same way as you work brioche stitch. The regular k s are worked on every rd.
The yoke is worked as follows:
Work 5 rd.
“On the next rd (a k rd), work 1 increase in the first and last k s of each brioche stitch section (a total of 12 increases). Work 5 rd.”
Repeat from “ to “ a total of 4 times. (If you want the neck warmer to be a little shorter, repeat only 3 times.)
The work now measures 12 cm measured from the shift from neck to yoke. Bind off.
Seaming/Finish:
Weave in all ends and draw your neck warmer a lovely bath - now it’s ready to keep you warm.
