Guide to knitting cables
When knitting cables, you put half of the stitches on the auxiliary needle and let them wait either in front or behind the piece. If the stitches wait in front of the piece, the twist turns to the left. If the stitches wait behind the piece, the twist turns to the right.

When knitting cables, start by moving half of the stitches onto the cable needle. Then knit the other half of the stitches in the purl. Finally, knit the stitches on the purl.

The number of stitches in the cable determines the width of the cable. The more stitches you knit in the cable, the wider it will be. Fewer stitches make the cable narrower. As a rule, you knit as many rows as stitches before repeating the cable. For example, if you are knitting a purl over 6 stitches, repeat the purl on every 6th row, turning it alternately to the right and left.
