Once you have unpacked the yarn winder, first loosen the screw in the side slightly. Then you can more easily extend the clamp that will secure the yarn winding to a table. Once the clamp can expand, tighten the screw again. Mount the clamp to the table by turning the screw to the right, i.e. clockwise to tighten it.

If you want to use the yarn winder to hold your thread while you wind up a skein on a wool winder, the instructions are as follows. Unwrap and stretch your hank so that it is a large round ring, and wrap the yarn around the device. Unwind the yarn winder so that the yarn is slightly taut. To do this, take hold of the clip at the bottom of the device, squeeze the clip and push it up so that the thread expands.
